Antonio's Pizza Case Study

In this first project for the UX Design course by Google, I created an app design for a local pizza restaurant.

Challenge: The target customers of Antonio’s Pizza are busy and the pizza restaurants around the area are very
blend, and people lack the time or energy necessary to prepare a healthy and nutritious meal.

Solution: Design an app that allows customers to customize & order pizza as well as other dishes in a quick & easy manner which in turn increases customer satisfaction & customer return thus increasing business profit & sales.

Research Overiew

I conducted user research and received feedback from users that I turned into user personas.  One of our user personas, Joshua, is a 22-year old currently studying in London.  On weekends, he has weekly game nights and needs food and drink choices for it. Research revealed that Joshua was frustrated with lack of choices in food as him and his friends have tried what is local and want something new.  We also learned that Joshua needs something that is not too expensive as him and his friends are always on a budget.

Important Pain Points Discovered from Research

  • Users wanted a healthy and delicious meal with a variety of options

  • Users wanted the food to be not too expensive as money and resources are an important factor to consider for some

Usability Study

Study type: Unmoderated usability study

Location: London, UK, remote (each participant went through the usability study in their own home)

Participants: Five participants, each completing the study individually. 3 males, 2 females & the age-range was between 16-32.

Length: Each session was 5-10 minutes, based on a list of prompts

Results: User had difficulty ordering items for specific diets, such as halal meat or gluten free. Users were also unsure of the sizes of the pizza, they wanted options in terms of inches as it is common in London. Users also wanted to be able to save their previous order for future times.

Hi-Fi Designs

 Usability update 1

Users wanted to choose the size of the pizza based on inches   as well as needed a variety of toppings which were all added to

 Usability update 2

All the meat provided by the restaurant would be halal/kosher   and the option for gluten free for our users – they can request   this in the comments box provided

 Usability update 1

Users can scroll down to continue to see the variety of options   including seafood & sausage.

 Usability Update 2

Users can click on the menu bar on the top left and check out   their saved pizza’s from before as well

Accessibility considerations

For the app, the images on each page use alt-text to allow a screen reader to read the content. The colour contrast also takes into account people who might have visibility issues. Further usability studies would be beneficial to highlight any other accessibility considerations.

What I learned

While designing the Antonio’s Pizza app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are only the beginning of the process, that the whole creative process of app design is a journey. Usability tests and peer feedback influence each iteration of the app.

As time goes on and users continue to give feedback as well as you look at the app design more, future improvements will surface and become clearer, and the product will continue to get better.

Moving forward, I would like to conduct another round of usability testing to validate whether the pain points my users experienced have been fully resolved. This would validate that all the updates as well as introduce me to any new pain points that might have occurred.
